Unnecessary And Needless

the Moons
Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon

Yep, after all these decades of bearing with the Rev. Sun Myung Moon and his spouse Hak Ja Han, I have realized and am eager to admit that many Unification practices were unnecessary and even needless. I refer to the required attendance of his matching and blessing events for all members, and certain religious and spiritual rituals that placed practitioners in undue duress.

Why did I join this movement in the mid-Seventies, way back in Germany? I should quote many ‘things,’ from my cognitive reasoning and justifications to subconscious and unconscious instincts, desires, and intuitions. Young people do not know much of what is going on, and I was young then when I joined.

Decades later, ‘things’ have become clearer for me. This is a brief reckoning.

To make a long story short, I joined the movement because joining the Rev. Moon on his religious journey to Heaven and world peace

  • was a fascinating proposition, and
  • seemed absolutely necessary.

Now, falling for a fascinating proposition involving religious adventures is all on me, for sure. I did get a lot out of it.

But the Rev. Moon was not shy about telling people that joining him in his endeavour was absolutely necessary and should be beyond anyone’s doubt.

I came to believe him in that and other fateful propositions. I then thought it shameful to walk away from his efforts to liberate God – after having come to understand that that was the quest.

Well, today, I say that it is what it is. Joining the Rev. Moon as an ordinary person in my youth gave me an extraordinary life, but it was unnecessary and needless as it proved itself to be a pipe dream.
